Jim Corbett National park is the oldest national park in India; it was established in 1936 as Hailey National park. After India’s independence the park was named as Ramganga National Park but later in 1956, it was named after Jim Corbett – the famous hunter turned conservationist and author, who played a major role in the establishment of national park. Jim Corbett National park is one of the renowned Wildlife Sanctuary in India.
A total of 488 different species of plants have been recorded in the park and over 585 species of resident and migratory birds have been categorized, including crested serpent eagles, blossom headed parakeet and the red jungle fowl, ancestor of all domestic fowl. 33 species of reptiles, seven species of amphibians, seven species of fish and 37 species of dragonflies have also been recorded.
